The new 2019 Ford Transit Connect gets some significant updates, including new engine options and new standard technology. It is available as both a passenger and cargo van, however this review will focus on only the passenger model. (Though, both versions of the Transit Connect are available with either a long or short wheelbase.)
The Ford Transit Connect is available at three trim levels: XL, XLT, and Titanium.
The Transit Connect comes standard with a 2.0-liter GDI I-4 engine. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with Auto Start-Stop to save fuel. For an even more fuel-efficient driving experience, choose the available 1.5-liter EcoBlue® Diesel. It also comes with Auto Start-Stop.
When equipped with the base engine, the Transit Connect attains 24 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined.* EPA estimates are not yet available for the diesel engine.
The Transit Connect comes with the versatility of dual sliding side doors. They make getting in and out easy with a step-in height under two feet. The van can also be equipped with seating for five, six, or seven passengers in two or three rows.
There are plenty of advanced technology features available in the Transit Connect including the Ford SYNC® 3 system, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, wireless charging, and even Ford+Alexa.
For 2019, the Transit Connect adds new standard safety features in the form of Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking. When a potential collision or pedestrian is detected, the system will warn the driver and automatically apply the brakes to potentially avoid or lessen the severity of a collision. Other standard safety features include a rearview camera, antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and airbags. Additional safety features are available.
