Caring For Your New Ford

If you’re interested in keeping your Ford in great shape for as long as possible, start by staying on top of regular service and maintenance tasks. Here are some guidelines for taking care of your new Ford model.

Check The Owner’s Manual

Before you do anything else, check the recommended service schedule for your vehicle in the owner’s manual. It should outline what service to do for your particular vehicle’s make and model and at which point in time, usually expressed in terms of either mileage or months.

Every 30,000 Miles

In addition to changing your oil every 3,000-5,000 miles, you should also change the air filter and fuel filter every 30,000 miles. Many experts agree that if you live in a dusty environment, air filters should be changed closer to every 15,000 miles.

Every 60,000 Miles

By the time the odometer has 60,000 miles on it, most drivers will have had to replace their battery, which typically lasts about 4-5 years. Other systems and parts that need to be checked and/or replaced by this milestone includes brake pads, rotors, and fluid, as well as coolant and transmission fluid.

Every 90,000 Miles

The 90,000-mile marker is when most drivers need to get their powertrain checked. The ignition system, timing belts, hoses, and power-steering fluid can have a big impact on the life of your vehicle. If you’ve been DIY-ing everything that came before this, now would be a good time to take your vehicle to the pros.

If you’re the type to take your vehicle to a third-party mechanic or to do regular maintenance yourself, keep in mind that it may void your warranty.
If you want to keep your warranty, make sure to have all service done at a Ford dealership’s service department, like at Tropical Ford.
