There are many reasons for the enduring popularity of the Ford F-150 and one of them is the high level of customization, beginning with the impressive range of powertrain options. For the 2018 model year, there are five engine choices, including the awesome high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost in the Baja-bred F-150 Raptor, which yields a massive 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a new and improved second-gen 3.5-liter EcoBoost featuring even higher ratings of 375 horsepower and best-in-class 470 lb-ft of torque, beating out all gas and diesel competitors. There’s also the robust 2.7-liter EcoBoost, the 5.0-liter Ti-CVT V8, and the new 3.3-liter Ti-VCT V6. Auto Start-Stop Technology is standard on all engines and several of them are mated to the segment-exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission.

Light yet capable
The new 2018 Ford F-150 body is up to 700 pounds lighter than the previous generation, thanks to a switch to high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy. Though kitchen foil may have given aluminum a reputation for crumbling easily, the F-150’s heat-treated and hardened aluminum alloy is the same high-grade 6000-series used in big military and industrial applications. Beneath the pickup’s aluminum-alloy body is a fully boxed frame made of up to 78% high-strength steel. It’s also the most capable F-150 ever, and when properly equipped, delivers best-in-class payload and tow ratings. Work is made even easier by features like innovative available Pro Trailer Backup Assist, integrated tailgate step and remote tailgate release, as well as deployable box side steps.
Lighter and more powerful than ever
The 2018 Ford F-150 is the most capable F-150 ever, yet also significantly lighter than the previous model, thanks to some excellent engineering accomplishments, which include:
